The Wedding People Review by Alison Espach Summary

The Wedding People Review by Alison Espach

The Wedding People by Alison Espach is a book filled with humor, drama and emotions. A small misunderstanding of a wedding guest and unlimited chaos.

What do you get when a depressed professor checks into a luxury hotel to die and ends up crash-landing into a six-day wedding circus? Apparently, one of the most unexpected books I’ve read this year.

Phoebe Stone has nothing left but sarcasm, painkillers, and blistering gold heels. She’s here to end things —until Lila, the bride, enters into her life and says, “No. You can’t kill yourself. It’s my wedding week.” And weirdly? That’s when things start getting better.

This book is bizarrely brilliant. It’s about sadness, friendship, & the magic of accidental friendship. The middle part of the books does drag a bit— but i am surely been hooked.

Do Phoebe and the groom fall in love? Do they end up together? Nope. And that’s the point. This isn’t a romance—it’s a resurrection. A slow, messy return to living.

The Wedding People

“She didn’t want to die so much as she wanted to stop existing in the way she was currently existing.”

Spoiler—

Phoebe checks into the luxe Cornwall Inn to die in style—no husband, no suitcase, just her green dress, gold heels, and a plan involving cat tranquilizers. But her suicide is derailed by Lila, a frantic bride who’s booked the whole hotel for her six-day wedding and will not allow a death to ruin her vibes.

Swept into the wedding chaos, Phoebe becomes an accidental maid of honor, a therapist to messy strangers, and—unexpectedly—part of the living. Lila calls off the wedding, Gary (the groom) and Phoebe bond, but don’t end up together. Instead, Phoebe choose to live her life, again.

Should you read it? If you’ve ever felt lost, stuck, or like you might never laugh again—and are ready for a story that reminds you just how wildly possible healing can be.
