Though this is mostly a character-driven novel, the plot-driven mystery elements should not lack, and they aren’t. The author does a fantastic job of keeping the story thrilling and suspenseful all the way from Page 1 to the very end, with numbers of twists and turns and a awaited climax and ending.

All the colors of the dark is a interesting read which indicate Chris Whitaker‘s talent for creating nail biting and suspense-thriller stories. The plot is nicely and thoughtfully woven with twists and revelations that keep readers guessing until the very end. Concept of redemption, guilt and the search for truth are put with depth and sensibility add meaning to narrative.

The book centers on a group of interesting but stark different people, each of whom is battling with their own secrets, problems and struggles.

There were many times I just wanted to close this book, the reason is not that this book isn’t great but it is emotionally very intense and the storytelling is serious too. As a reader we, need to focus on everything. But at the end reward you get is the satisfaction of completing this masterpiece.

One good thing about this book is the chapters are short so it becomes very easy to finish in one go.

Now, talking about characters, one of things which i really liked is how he portrays the character’s successes and hardships with a raw sincerity that make the readers feel like you’re in their world. The tension and intrigue of the story are increased by Whitaker’s easy to understand and dramatic language, which paints vivid pictures of the locations and moods.

This novel, which offers a moving and unforgettable journey through the concept of the human psyche, is a kind of must-read for lovers of literary fiction and psychological thrillers. Whitaker’s skill to awake strong emotions in his readers are evident in this novel.

Synopsis: The novel is set in the little town of Monta Clare, Missouri, at a period of change in America in 1975. Girls are inexplicably missing, and when a wealthy family’s daughter is targeted, Patch, a local youngster with one eye, emerges as an unexpected hero. Patch leaves misery in his behind but manages to save the girl.

Joseph “Patch” Macauley, a thirteen-year-old Missouri kid, was born with only one eye, therefore he wears an eye patch and imagines himself as a pirate. In 1975, he witnesses a masked man mistreating a girl in the Jungle.

He attacks the man and saves her, but the predator captures him instead. Patch ultimately wakes up in complete darkness in a cellar, when a different girl pays him a secret visit, heard but never seen.
