Heartless Summary – Chestnut Springs #2

So, let’s meet our characters. First, we have Willa Grantfirecracker female lead. She’s recently out of work because her bar (the one she manages for her brother) is closed for renovations, and her show horse is sidelined by injury. So what does she do?

She started a job as a nanny for Cade Eaton, a single dad who is considered as the grumpiest guy in the county. Cade’s idea of fun? Not having any. Seriously, this man has been playing the role of “responsible caretaker” his entire life, and let me tell you, that grumpy persona is nailed down tighter than a jar of pickles.

What could possibly go wrong, right? Oh, just everything. You see, Cade didn’t expect Willa to be, well, Willa. She’s loud, she’s wild, and she’s exactly the type of chaos his structured life doesn’t need—or so he thinks. But here’s the kicker: despite Cade’s attempts to maintain control (which is adorable, by the way), Willa barrels into his life like a tornado of sunshine, leaving him disoriented and questioning why, after all these years, his cold, dead heart is suddenly feeling things. Is Cade doomed? Most likely.

And then there’s Luke, Cade’s adorable, son, who is practically begging for someone like Willa to come in and shower him with the maternal affection he’s been missing. I mean, could this little trio be any more wholesome? Between Willa and Luke bonding over fun summer activities, and Cade standing by, trying to pretend like he’s not falling for her, you’ll be clutching your heart one moment and fanning yourself the next.

Is Heartless Spicy?

Yes the tension between Willa and Cade is spicy. Oh yes, there’s banter, and then there’s whatever electric, panty-dropping chemistry these two have going on. One minute, they’re playfully bickering, and the next, Cade’s saying things like, “Keep talking like that, and I’m going to fu*k the filth right out of your pretty mouth.” Excuse me, sir, is it hot in here, or is it just you? Willa’s reactions? Equally as entertaining. And yes, there are kitchen dances and carved initials, for those of you who like your romance with a side of heart-melting fluff.

But here’s the thing, for all Cade’s behaviour the main reason is he’s terrified of letting someone in—especially Willa. The man has built walls higher than the ones around his ranch, but surprise, Willa’s got the emotional sledgehammer to knock them down.

And can we talk about Luke? This kid steals the show. He’s the glue that brings this whole family together, and when he tells Willa, “Sometimes I wish you were my mom,” you’ll be a puddle of emotions. Like, who gave this book the right to play with our feelings like that?
