Immortal Longings Detailed Plot Summary with Spoilers
Characters:
- So, we’ve got Calla Tuoleimi, a princess-turned-fugitive whose hobbies include assassinating her own parents (yikes) and plotting the demise of her dear uncle, who stole her throne.
Oh, and did I mention she’s competing in the deadliest game in the kingdom of Talin’s twin cities, San-Er? Think of the Olympics, but with more bloodshed and existential crises.
- Enter Anton Makusa, an exiled man whose tragic past involves his true love, Otta, stuck in a coma. So, naturally, his big brain idea is to go into the games, win some life saving money, and save her.
Classic romantic hero stuff, right? But then he meets Calla and starts feelings for her.
Plot Synopsis:
And as if things weren’t complicated enough, throw in August, the adopted son of the king. He’s got his own little mess of ambitions—mostly involving tearing down the corrupt system but also, you know, keeping his head attached to his body.
He’s charming, he’s complicated, and he’s probably plotting ten different betrayals at any given moment. Keep your enemies close, but your frenemies closer, right?
Oh, and did I mention the body-jumping? Yeah, that’s a thing. Basically, characters can yeet themselves into other people’s bodies and just stroll around as if identity theft is a casual Sunday hobby.

Which, of course, raises all kinds of moral questions like: Is it okay to steal someone’s body if you’re doing it for true love? Or vengeance?
Naturally, Calla and Anton’s partnership is a hot mess of conflicting motives and spicy chemistry. He’s trying to save his comatose girlfriend, she’s trying to murder her uncle, and somehow, in the midst of all that murder-y chaos, they’re falling for each other. Relatable, kinda?
Just your classic love story where “I would die for you” isn’t poetic; it’s literally part of the tournament rules. But of course, nothing is that simple. And the more they try to outmaneuver each other, the clearer it becomes that everyone’s playing their own game.
Final Verdict?
By the time you reach the end, you’re not sure whether you want to hug these characters, yell at them, or just throw the book across the room. And honestly, isn’t that the best kind of reading experience?
Chloe Gong has essentially tossed us into a blender of romance, revenge, and moral dilemmas, hit ‘puree,’ and cackled maniacally. And I, for one, am here for the chaos. Also, there’s a cat named Mao Mao. That’s it. That’s the review.
So, are you ready to dive into this deliciously dramatic bloodbath? Because I think you’re going to be obsessed.

Reviewed: Immortal Longings by Chloe Gong
Immortal Longings is like someone tossed Hunger Games and Romeo and Juliet together blender. The result… A bloody, twisty fantasy where body-jumping is all the rage and alliances are about as reliable as a toddler’s promises.
The romance? Simmering, but also feels like it’s fighting the plot for page space. The world-building is fascinating, but sometimes it’s so heavy you need a map, glossary, and maybe a stiff drink.
Did I like it? Yeah, but it’s messy. Just don’t expect everything to click perfectly. A solid 3.5 stars. Would I read the sequel? Sure, but preferably with popcorn.

Quotes:
“They trained her for war. And she rose up to wage it on them.”
“Go on,” he says evenly. “Kill me. Fall not a tear. Be the murderous princess they say you are.”
