Book Review: The Gingerbread Bakery
When you walk into a small-town bakery, the smell of cinnamon rolls hits you, and you sort of think, yes, this is home? That’s basically what reading, The Gingerbread Bakery felt like. Cozy, sweet, and with just enough spice to keep me turning the pages.
Annie, our determined bakery owner, has had her fair share of sugar and sass — but nothing prepares her for being forced into wedding-party duties with her ex-fling, Mac. You know, the guy who left both her and their hometown years ago. Cue the glares, the banter, and the slow unraveling of feelings neither one of them is ready to admit.
What worked? The dual timeline was a win. Getting to see Annie and Mac at nineteen, in all their sweet awkwardness, really sold the second chance element. Their chemistry is really nice, and I’ll admit, Mac’s POV is good too. And let’s not ignore the Christmas vibes — snow, cookies etc…
So why not five stars? Well, somewhere in the 2nd half, the pacing seems a lil slow. The tension doesn’t feels the same when I wanted more fireworks. It’s still delightful, but I wish for a bit more fast pacing.
Still, this is a warm, sort of feel-good, small-town romance that hits the spot. Just be prepared to want gingerbread on hand while reading.

At the center of it all this time is Annie, the town’s beloved bakery owner. She’s got some amazing baking skills and one very big problem: Mac. Yes, that Mac. The guy whom she liked when they were 19, then suddenly left both her and their hometown behind. Ugh. Can you blame her for hating him just a little?
But here’s the catch — Annie and Mac are both in their friends’ wedding party. Which means errand runs, decorations, and way too many moments of forced proximity. And let’s be honest, how long can you keep ignoring someone before you start revisiting the past? Or worse… the way they once kissed you under twinkling Christmas lights?

The story changes from past and present, showing that one perfect December when Annie and Mac’s love first bloomed and contrast to, reality of their meeting years later. Why do they fight so much? Because in their heart, they’ve been liking for each other all along. Hmmm .. as always
Add in a missing Nana, a town full of quirky side characters, and the chaos of pulling together a dream wedding, and you’ve got a recipe for romance — with a generous dusting of Christmas magic.
Will Annie let go of her fears of failure? Will Mac finally prove he’s good enough for her?
