Book Review: The Strawberry Patch Pancake House
Ever read a book that feels like a warm hug and mild frustration at the same time? The Strawberry Patch Pancake House is exactly that. It’s cozy, it’s sweet, and it’s got a single dad who cooks in the middle of the night, shirtless—so, priorities.
Archer is a world-class chef turned small-town diner cook (tragedy), struggling to connect with his newly discovered daughter, Olive. Enter Iris, a free-spirited yoga instructor-turned-nanny who does not like kids. But guess what? Turns out, kids are adorable (who knew?!).
The town is charming, the romance is a slow burn, and the banter is fun, but sometimes the pacing drags, and I wanted more depth in their relationship. Still, if you love found family, chaotic town meetings, and breakfast food, you’ll enjoy this. Just…maybe have a snack handy.

The Strawberry Patch Pancake House Plot Synopsis
Meet Archer. A world-class chef who once ruled the kitchens of Paris but now finds himself flipping pancakes in a small-town diner. Why? Because life has a way of flipping his plans. Turns out, he has a five-year-old daughter, Olive, whom he only learned about after her mother’s passing. Now, he’s traded Michelin stars for maple syrup, trying to win over the town and his daughter—who, by the way, isn’t speaking to him. Ouch.
Enter Iris, a yoga instructor. Expert at avoiding responsibility. The closest she’s ever come to childcare is leading senior water aerobics, which, in fairness, involves plenty of complaints about snack time. But when an opportunity arises to become Olive’s nanny—rent-free, no less—how can she say no? Just one problem: she hates kids. (Or so she thinks.)
What follows is a delightful mess. The town is skeptical of Archer (his “fancy” food is practically a crime against their beloved diner). Olive is skeptical of her new nanny (who is this lady?). And Iris is skeptical of Archer (why does he cook half-naked in the middle of the night? Is that even legal?). But the longer they spend in forced proximity, the harder it is to resist the pull of found family, cozy small-town charm, and, well… Archer’s abs.
Of course, nothing is ever that simple. Can Archer prove he’s stable enough to keep Olive? Can Iris survive without running from commitment? And can the town please just accept that smoked salmon can belong on a pancake?
