This Is Why We Lied Book Review
Karin Slaughter’s delivers a tense and thrilling mystery in which Will and Sara, now married, are on their honeymoon at McAlpine Lodge. Their honeymoon plans gets completely overthrown by the news of brutal murder of Mercy McAlpine. As they try to find the reason, they find that everyone at the lodge has some or other kind of secrets, making it difficult to pinpoint the killer.
Talking about the character, Faith Mitchell is a standout character. Her no-nonsense attitude, loyalty, and humor make her someone readers will enjoy following. She adds a bit of lightness to the darker elements of the plot. Author explores issues like addiction, domestic violence, and toxic relationships. These themes are tied into the characters’ lives and the unfolding mystery.
Some fans might find the pace a bit slower than usual, but even after having a few minor flaws, Slaughter crafts a gripping mystery that will keep readers hooked. It’s a solid addition to the Will Trent series, perfect for fans who enjoy complex and dark thrillers.
The frequent mentions of the lodge’s trails and the many false leads can be a bit much. But overall, the story remains engaging, focusing on dark secrets and the lengths people will go to protect them. It’s a gripping, if not perfect, addition to the Will Trent series.
