The Irresistible Urge to Fall for Your Enemy by Brigitte Knightley is a cheeky, slow-burn romantasy with Osric Mordaunt and Aurienne Fairhrim as the love couples. An assassin and a healer.
How they met? Let’s find out..

“A forced partnership ensues: the brilliant female in STEM is coerced into working with the PhD in Murders, much to Aurienne’s disgust. “
Book Review: The Irresistible Urge to Fall For Your Enemy
The book has killer banter, lovable disaster characters, and fanfic-level addictiveness. Osric is delightfully arrogant, Aurienne is brilliantly prickly, and their reluctant alliance makes for great tension.
But where it falters? The world-building is thin, relying too much on the glossary, and the plot is written with little urgency until the final act. The magic system is more vibes than logic, and sometimes the emotional depth is overshadowed by forced humor/sarcasm.
It’s a fun ride—just not a flawless one. Still, if you love enemies-to-lovers and sarcasm-as-flirting, this hits the spot, we might have just uncovered a magical government cover-up while falling in love. Classic.

The Irresistible Urge to Fall For Your Enemy Summary (Dearly Beloathed #1)
Osric Mordaunt, drama king, professional assassin, and walking magic rot hazard, is slowly dying. His seith (aka his magic) is decaying, and none of his fellow pals can fix it. Enter: Aurienne Fairhrim, a prodigy healer from the enemy Medica Order with a moral backbone made of steel and zero time for nonsense.
She hates him. He bribes her. She’s broke. He’s desperate. They strike a deal.
Also, the world’s deadliest case of magical pox resurfaces and begins infecting vulnerable children, and the healing tour begins.

“She hated how familiar he’d become. How the sound of his voice didn’t immediately irritate her anymore.”
Somehow, these two idiots are the only ones who seem to care.
They bicker. They banter. They deny their feelings with Olympic-level skill. He flirts. She scowls. He falls first. She almost notices. The romance simmers so slowly you could slow-cook a stew over it and still have time to develop emotional intimacy.
But beyond the budding tension, they start discovering some secrets. The pox isn’t natural. The Orders may be hiding things. And Osric’s condition? A bigger conspiracy..?
Ending Spoilers:
Just when they finally make a breakthrough with his healing, and right after we get a swoony, long-awaited kiss, the book throws its final twist: their mission, their feelings, and maybe the entire political system they’re trapped in? Far messier than they realized.
The story ends on a gut-punch revelation that flips everything on its head… and guarantees chaos in Book Two.
Quotes:
“He wanted to kill for her. He wanted to heal for her. He didn’t know which desire was worse.”
