“Damn you, Daniel!” she screamed, jabbing her finger into the phone’s
screen multiple times before finally hitting the button to hang up. Damn
you to the bottom of the lowest, filthiest, least comfortable,
hell’s furnace, you no-good, worthless son of a bitch!”

If i want to sum up Interlaced in one sentence it would be taking one bad decision which leads to another bad decision, and then somehow life is on fire?

I thought it as a simple crime thriller, but the characters here are a totally real, you can clearly understand why one is taking this path or choosing one thing over another.

The story starts with a nasty divorce. Real Nasty! From there, you wander into murder plots, revenge planning and plotting, and no. of bad choices.

What I liked most was how everything connects. At first, the different characters seem to be living in completely separate worlds. Then little threads start crossing. Suddenly you’re realizing, how pulling a thread in a person’s life can connect with other, It’s like watching dominoes fall.

Riley was easily my favorite character. Honestly, the poor guy can’t catch a break. Every time I thought things might improve for him, he’s into more trouble.

Then there’s Angela. Every time she appeared, I paid attention. She make things more interesting for sure.

The real strength of this book is the characters. Nobody is perfect. Nobody is completely good or evil.

The writing is straightforward and easy to read. No fancy literary gymnastics. I was also surprised as it has some humor as well which is generally rare in crime thriller.

Why 4 ⭐️? A few of the connections between characters felt a little too convenient. Not enough to ruin the story, but enough that I occasionally raised an eyebrow. Some supporting characters appearance and story needed more depth.

At its core, Interlaced is about consequences. It’s about what happens when anger, greed, grief, and desperation, all met at a same station.

Storyline: (Spoiler Alert)

Well, the story starts with people making wrong decisions, obv.

At the center of the story is Riley Garrick, a former military sniper who’s had about as much luck in life as a guy standing under a piano in a cartoon. Broke, lonely, and desperate, he ends up taking a contract killing job. Naturally, you can assume where this is going.

Meanwhile, Daniel and Jessica are going through a divorce so ugly it makes most reality TV look good. They’re fighting over money, and eventually they think Maybe the other person shouldn’t exist. Reasonable ? Maybe not.

Then there’s Angela, a lawyer who’s playing on a completely level of the game than everyone else.

By the end, secrets come out, the planning starts to fail, people die. Honestly, if karma had a favorite novel, it might be Interlaced

What I Loved

What makes the story work isn’t the murders, the twists, or even the crime. It’s the people. They’re realistic, selfish, desperate and very human. You may not always agree with their choices, but you’ll know how they got there.

Quotes:

“Divorce wasn’t destroying them. The need to win was.”

Final Verdict?

Would I recommend it?

Yes, if you like crime thrillers that focus just as much on people as they do on the crime itself.
