Will and Sara can’t simply ignore the murder. They quickly dive into the looking what is behind all this mishappening. As they question the guests and staff about this, they realize almost everyone is hiding something. Now, The lodge itself is important to the story. Its isolated, eerie setting adds to the tension. The surrounding trails and scenery adds a lot in the mystery, though at times, acc. to some readers it slows the story a bit. At the same time, Will and Sara’s relationship and love is tested. They love each other more than anything, but the stress of the investigation sometimes makes their interactions feel overly sweet. Even so, they remain strong as a team, showing how well they work together under pressure.

The frequent mentions of the lodge’s trails and the many false leads can be a bit much. But overall, the story remains engaging, focusing on dark secrets and the lengths people will go to protect them. It’s a gripping, if not perfect, addition to the Will Trent series.
