“Every hero has their monsters.
And Alexis is tied to hers: tied eternally to the Underworld’s dark heirs in a marriage that has shaken the foundations of Olympus. Soon, she enlists in the Assembly of Death, set on wrecking vengeance on her husbands and uncovering the truth behind her deadly powers.”
Book Review: Bonds of Hercules by Jasmine Mas
So remember how Blood of Hercules ended with chaos, cliffhangers, and a not-so-clear romance direction? Bonds of Hercules picks up right from that point—but surprise!
The real love story is between Alexis and her two professors, Kharon (unhinged Grim Reaper energy) and Augustus (soft praise-filled war daddy). The mentors? Yeah… they’re basically left in the academic dust.
At first, you can feel heavy world-building—but then there comes a twist. The villains get vulnerable, the professors start simping, and Alexis begins to know her half-Chthonic side. And when I say Kharon is obsessed, I mean he literally cuts off his own ear to give her after she loses hers. Devotion? Insanity? Both?
Meanwhile, Achilles and Patro—remember all that tension from book one?—yeah, that plot kind of… fades away. It’s like Jasmine almost forgot and we all just blinked.
Still, the emotional scenes are great where: Alexis finds her strength, re-learn to trust. The humor with chaos is good. Kharon, Augustus, and Nyx has some good pieces of laugh.
But don’t get too ease out—Alexis turns out to be an unreliable narrator (plot twist expected). What really happened with Nyx’s old bond? What’s up with Medusa? Why do I suddenly need the next book yesterday?
The book is messy with bit of humor— Jasmine Mas’s styled love triangle with greek mytho, but it lacks serious character development and plot hold.

Bonds of Hercules Summary Spoilers
Okay, so Bonds of Hercules picks up right where we left off—with Alexis now magically (and awkwardly) married to her two professors, Kharon and Augustus.
“You think the games are over? They’ve only just begun.”
Kharon came to be an unhinged simp, and also a bit overprotective. When Alexis loses her ear in a fight, he just—casually—cuts off his own and gives it to her. Romantic? Horrifying? Yes. Both. Meanwhile, Augustus is the completely opposite—gentlemanly vibes.

Alexis, though, is the real star. She’s learning about her powers, healing literal goddesses, and standing up to Zeus with confidence is nice to read.
As for Achilles and Patro? Still obsessed with each other, still confusing everyone. Their plot moves in the background while Alexis, Kharon, and Augustus are the main lead.
Bonds of Hercules Ending Explained:
The ending is engaging as well but lacks something. Zeus gets exposed, Nyx gets a redemption arc, and then suddenly Medusa shows up. Like, hello?? You thought things were settling down? Think again.
So now we have Alexis, who is stronger than ever, two men going round for her, and the Underworld on chaos. It’s messy.
Quotes:
“He woke up blushing because he realized he’d fallen asleep next to her.”
