Book Review: Don’t Let Him In by Lisa Jewell
Okay, so Don’t Let Him In was like watching a almost true crime doc. set by your overly dramatic aunt—very interesting, chaotic, but also lil bit exhausting. Lisa Jewell gave us gaslighting dish with a side of emotional manipulation, and the villain? A walking red flag factory.
But the early chapters felt like mental gymnastics (confusing too, what year are we in now?), and just when things got inetresting—BOOM! We sprinted to the end like someone hit 2x speed. Also, did we really need six names for one man? It’s not a memory testing show.
Fun ride, but not peak Jewell-level obsession.

Don’t Let Him In by Lisa Jewell Summary Spoilers
The story starts with a, Why? Because some silver-fox named Nick Radcliffe sent her a sympathy card and a lighter from the “good ol’ days.” Romantic, right? WRONG.
Nick slides into Nina’s life with condolences, a charming smile, and a sad too perfect backstory. They flirt, they meet, and before you know it, they’re dating. Ash? She’s NOT on board. Something about him feels… off. Too polished. Too rehearsed. Too perfect. And she’s absolutely right.

Flashbacks reveal that Nick Radcliffe is also Alistair Grey. And Jonathan. And Simon. And André. You get the idea. He’s got more aliases than a spy and the emotional range of a toaster.
“You never see the devil coming when he shows up in good shoes and a tragic backstory.”
For the last four years, he’s been living two separate lives—one with Nina and one with Martha, a hardworking florist raising a baby and two teens. He lies, show some love, fake something, and suddenly went for “business trips” (strange ..).
What’s the Truth?
Ash teams up with her dad’s ex-girlfriend Jane (hmm.. female rage!) and starts digging. What she finds? Criminal levels of deception. Multiple bank accounts. Suspicious deaths. A string of women he’s emotionally and financially ruined. Oh, and a sketchy past as a male escort. Yes, that kind of escort.
It all ends at a dramatic showdown at Bangate Cove, where Nick’s double (triple? quadruple?) life unravels in front of everyone. He’s plan is busted, his lies exposed, and the women—Nina, Ash, Martha, and even Jane—walk away freely. (obv. a lil scarred)
Lesson learned:
Don’t let him in. Literally. Not into your inbox, your house, or your heart.
Quotes:
“Grief made me vulnerable. He made sure I stayed that way.”
