Rewind It Back by Liz Tomforde

“When I was sixteen, we fell for each other.
And then I was nineteen, we broke up.
Six years later, I’ve joined an internship with a interior designer in a new city. Unfortunately, that city just so happens to be the one he plays hockey for.”

Book Review: Rewind It Back (Windy City #5)

Rewind It Back gave me heartbreak, healing, and an existential crisis—thanks Rio. The slow burn? Torturous in the best way. The love? Soulmate-level. The found family moments? Sob.

But okay, real talk—did we need that much emotional damage before the happy ending? And maybe, just maybe, a couple of flashbacks felt repetitive (yes, they were cute, but it just needed a lil break!).

Still, I devoured every page. This is romance with teeth, heart, and humor. And I’ll be rereading it whenever I need to feel everything again.

Rewind It Back by Liz Tomforde Summary (Spoilers Free Almost)

How do you even begin to recover from a book like Rewind It Back? Asking for a friend. Because I’m still emotional, looking into my hoodie like Rio himself just whispered, “It’s always been us.”

“Because it’s always been us… even when I thought I didn’t want it to be, I knew it was us.”

We’ve been feral for Rio’s story since book one, and Liz Tomforde delivered a nice, comfy and emotionl romantic man who could melt anyone’s heart with a single heartfelt line. Seriously—who gave him permission?

Hallie? Oh, I would go to war for that woman. She is strong & kind, with just the right amount of “I’ve been through hell but I still bake cookies and believe in love.” Her and Rio? Soulmates. No other explanation. They’ve loved each other their entire lives. And yes, I cried. Multiple times. At inopportune moments. (Why did I read this in public again?)

The dual timeline? Genius. The past was adorable and full of yearning, the present was aching and raw, and somewhere in the middle… it hit. You know what I mean. THAT scene. You’ll know when you get there. You’ll need a moment. Or twelve.

And can we talk about the epilogue? No spoilers, but just know it shattered me and rebuilt me in a way that only the final book in a beloved series can. It was a goodbye—but also a thank you.

Quotes:

“It burrows in my chest, making a home where she’s always been.”

Final Verdict?

So now what? A full reread with snacks and tissues? Kinda Yes,, if u want to.

Because this book wasn’t just about Rio and Hallie—it was about all of them. And if you’ve been in the Windy City since Mile High, you already know: you’re not just reading. You’re living it.

Who should read it:

  • Hopeless romantics – You’ll melt, swoon & even cry.
  • Anyone who loves childhood friends-to-lovers.
  • Readers who enjoy humor with their tears.
  • If you are Windy City series fans.
