In a forest named “Red Crow State” , two boys, Jeremy Cox and Rafe Howell, go missing. They vanish for six months. When they return, they have no idea how they survived. Jeremy remembers everything but Rafe remembers nothing. Fifteen years later, Jeremy is a famous investigator. Rafe lives alone and creates art.

Meanwhile, Emilie Wendell hires Jeremy. She needs to find her missing sister, Shannon. Shannon disappeared in the same forest. Jeremy, Rafe, and Emilie go back to Red Crow State Forest. They need to uncover the truth. Jeremy knows they entered a magical world. It was beautiful and dangerous. He never told Rafe. The journey forces them to face their past.

The book feels like a fairytale and definitely pulls readers into a magical world. The writing is vivid and colorful which inturn eases to imagine the scenes. The tone is whimsical and fun. There are funny inputs by the author between chapters. The story is (and definitely seems to be) inspired by “The Chronicles of Narnia” and “The Wizard of Oz.” as It captures the magic of stepping into another world.

The characters are likable, different and fun loving like Jeremy is dedicated to finding the lost. He struggles with his secret. Rafe is a solitary artist and he is haunted by their past. Emilie is focussed to find her sister. Together, they make a compelling team. Their banter was engaging, and they are at quite ease with one another. 

The book tackles serious issues such as suicide, adoption, and family drama. These add a seriousness and much needed depth to the story. There are queens, princesses, knights, unicorns, and mermaids and thses magical elements are great.

The story is fast pacing and engaging from start to finish. The characters’ interactions are compelling. The mystery keeps readers hooked. The storyteller’s interludes are clever. The mix of adventure and serious themes works well. This book is a delightful escape as it blends magic, and emotion. Also, It addresses real-life issues while the storytelling is masterful. The characters are the main point of focus in this prose which make it beautiful. It’s a cozy, feel-good fairytale with a mystery.

Meg Shaffer’s new book is pure magic and natural for instance, fifteen years later, Jeremy becoemes a famous investigator while Rafe is a reclusive artist and Emilie Wendell hires Jeremy to find her missing sister, Shannon who has disappeared in the same forest which has number of mystries soon to be unfolded.

Shaffer creates an truely magical world in which the realm is vivid and colorful. The novel by Shaffer is sarcastic, intriguing and fun. The story has many funny moments that add charm. The characters are relatable. Jeremy struggles with his secret while Rafe searches for lost memories and Emilie is busy in finding her sister.

The book also mentions some serious issues as discussed earlier. It talks about adoption, and family drama. At the same time past traumas and experiences are resurfaced which gives a good touch and despite the fairytale setting, the story feels real.

This book is a beautiful blend of magic and emotion and reading it will make you feel emotion rich and satisfied. It’s perfect for fans of fantasy and light read novels. Meg Shaffer, also known as Tiffany Reisz, delivers a captivating read. Some of the fans finds storytelling and execution quite below par and dialouge are not that gripping and interesting. All in all, this book stays with you long after you finish it. Anyone who is fanatasy fan can read this book.
