Book Review: Brimstone by Callie Hart
So Brimstone begins, and suddenly we’re in a world where love is loud and no plot line is more important than reminding us that Saeris and Kingfisher are soulmates. But a 660 page romantasy….??
Let’s unpack:
Saeris is still badass, still sterilized (thank the fantasy gods no surprise pregnancy trope yet), and still trying to figure out who she really is.
Then there’s Joshin. A demon who dies from light… living in a desert… under two suns. And why was he teaming up with a locksmith? What was their business model? Kidnapping & cabinetry?
Soon after—Carrion Swift shares he loves Saeris. I think not completely but ya feelings do exist. Do we get a love triangle or was that just another mirage in this desert of emotional chaos?
“Kingfisher is dead.”
Hayden escapes Zilvaren (yay!), arrives in Yvelia… and then Callie kinda forgets he exists. No therapy session. No trauma exploration. He was freed, fed, and filed away.
Best boys? Elroy = king. Archer = protect at all costs. Tal = redemption speedrun.
Final question: Did Callie overhype the pain? Yes. Did she make us addicted anyway? …Yes. Are we reading the next one?
Sigh. You already know.

Brimstone Summary Spoilers
Imagine opening a book expecting answers… and instead getting a thousand questions, two suns, one fox in danger, and zero therapy sessions. Welcome back to Brimstone.
Saeris continues being the gold standard of traumatized-but-thriving female leads. She’s stronger, softer, and finally comfortable loving someone without self-destructing.
Fisher? He’s not just in love. They don’t just communicate, they trust each other.

But then—Fisher drops the bomb: “Kingfisher” is dead. His true name? Khydan.
Sounds like someone who either rules kingdoms… or starts cults. Marriage is now possible… but that’s a next-book problem. (Though admit it— you can guess it already?)
Carrion Swift is a great character in the entire plot. He and Fisher go on a mission together and the banter alone is okay to carry the book plot. Carrion admits he loves Saeris, but in that way “I’d kill for you, not marry you” kinda way. And honestly? That somehow made him even more lovable.
Brimstone by Callie Hart Ending Explained:
Hayden is finally rescued from Zilvaren… and then barely speaks, like he was tired from the trip and needed a nap. Tal gets redemption. Archer the fox?
But the ending? Oh, Callie Hart didn’t end the book but a cliffhanger again.
– Fisher finally learns his true name.
– Khydan- half-god?! Idk
– Demon trade? Unexplained.
– Layne? Still asleep. Ren? Still waiting.
– Foley & Saeris? Vampires… for reasons.
So yes—things happened. Big things. Emotional things. But are any of them resolved? Absolutely not. This was the world’s most dramatic to be continued…
Now we wait for Book 3 like dehydrated desert creatures. Do we trust Callie? Yes. Are we scared? Also yes.
Quotes:
“Yes, it was primal. Yes, it was petty. No, it was not very progressive of me to want to mark her in this way. I didn’t fucking care.”
