This book? Whew. It had me hooked from page one. Rune and Gideon are back—still enemies, and making questionable life choices. (But hey, who doesn’t love a bit of emotional damage?)
The tension? Perfection. The betrayals? hmm.. many. The pacing? Mostly great, though the second half felt a bit rushed (could we get one extra chapter of Gideon and Rune being forced to work together without immediate disaster?). I loved watching Rune truly got to know who she is, and Gideon? That man is in denial—and you will love every second of it.
Was it predictable at times? Sure. This was enemies-to-lovers done right. A solid 4 stars—because while it wasn’t flawless, it was an addictively fun, emotional ride. Now, excuse me while I mourn that this is only a duology.

Rebel Witch Plot Summary by Kristen Ciccarelli
The Crimson Moth has been unmasked, and the Blood Guard, led by one very broody, very betrayed Gideon Sharpe, is out for her head. (And not in the romantic way. Yet.)
Gideon, meanwhile, is having the worst time of his life. First, the mysterious vigilante he’s been hunting for years turns out to be the Rune Winters. Then, not only does she escape, but she also manages to shake the very foundation of everything he believes in. Betrayed by not one, but two witches, Gideon is determined to wipe magic from existence once and for all.
So naturally, they end up working together.
Storyline and Plot Pacing:
But wait—how does a sworn witch hunter and the infamous witch rebel leader go from “I will destroy everything you love” to “Fine, but only because it’s mutually beneficial“? Well, desperation makes for strange alliances. With war in the centre and both sides making power moves, Rune realizes she needs power to win this fight.
Enter Cressida Roseblood, a cunning witch whose idea of a better world might just be Rune’s worst nightmare. What’s a girl to do when aligning with the enemy feels just as dangerous as fighting them? And Gideon? He gets an offer he simply cannot refuse. But working with Rune means facing the feelings he’s tried so hard to bury. (Spoiler alert: He’s failing. Badly.)
While the first half of the story is filled with high-stakes plotting, close calls, and just the right amount of bickering, the second half turns up the heat—both in battle and in emotions. There are new characters (some useful, some not), betrayals that cut deep, and moments that will make you question everything. And the tension between Rune and Gideon?
One thing’s for sure—when the Crimson Moth and the Blood Guard’s deadliest hunter collide, sparks will fly. And whether those sparks ignite love or war… well, you’ll just have to read to find out.
