Crowntide by Alex Aster is next book in the Lightlark series feat. Isla Crown and her famous love triangle, alongwith drama, politics and steam.
Is this book better than Skyshade?… Let’s check out..
🚫No BS. No Spam. Only Love for Books

“Isla wanted to defeat Lark but now survival is also difficult, let alone the dreams.
Grim and Oro can go to any extent for Isla. But getting her back will involve forging an alliance—if they can find a way to forgive their long history of betrayals.”
Book Review: Crowntide (Lightlark#4)
So Crowntide opens with Isla launching herself into another realm with her ancestor Lark like she just rage-quit a group chat. She then went into Skyshade, and now two immortal men who are fighting God just to be his Good Boy.
And honestly? They try. Grim and Oro hate each other then also they united for the sole purpose of finding Isla. Cute..??
But, their alliance feels like somewhat forced.
But wait—this book has multiple POVs. Finally! After three books of …Do I trust Grim? we get access to his inner thoughts. And turns out? He’s broody.
Meanwhile, Oro seems the only emotionally responsible man in fantasy, loving Isla like one deserve.
Also, Isla got stuck in Skyshade and have literally zero idea. Then, She meets Cronan. Instead, he keeps her around to mind-torture her into destroying the universe with him. As once a great man has said “Why kill your enemy when you can emotionally manipulate her into a power-trip partnership, right?”
Eventually, Isla gets a one-person rescue portal and chooses… Grim. Of course she does. Did anyone gasp? Anyone at all? Even a little? But then Grim gets his memory wiped,
The story seems to be stretched and slowed down to fit in a book. Plot is good but the series has dragged a bit. The charcters uniqueness has begin to fade and some scenes starts to feel repititive.

CrownTide Summary Spoilers
So, Crowntide begins the way most fantasy romances do: with our heroine Isla Crown suddenly missing like a Wi-Fi signal right before a Zoom presentation.
“She doesn’t even have to be mine. She might never be mine”
- Now, we talk about Grim Malvere, King of Shadows — he’s brooding and controls ancient magic.
- Oro Rey, King of Light — sunlight boy, would definitely shine if this were Twilight.
Off they go, across kingdoms and into deadly trials involving: a big cosmic war that wants to happen.
Meanwhile, Isla is not just sitting around for rescue. She’s in fight with gods, curses, and drama. Basically, character development with pain.
Grim gets tested — choose love or power, boo! Oro’s loyalty will also get tested. And risk is like, “By the way, one tiny mistake, and all your kingdoms explode.”
Dawn of Chaos and Fury Ending Explained:
And the ending? Oh, you wanted answers? Cute.
The war isn’t stopped. The prophecy isn’t solved. The love triangle is basically a fever dream. The book just drops us off at the edge of doom like, “See you in the next trauma-filled installment!”
No endings. Just danger, feelings, and a very stupidly gorgeous standoff.
Quotes:
“For you.
You are strong. Never forget.”
