Hidden Nature by Nora Roberts

“Sloan Cooper, and her partner had just taken down three men preying on hikers in the Western Maryland mountains. One gunshot from a jittery thief was about to change her world.
She may be down, but she’s not out.”

Book Review: Hidden Nature by Nora Roberts

Nora Roberts nails the small-town vibes— locals, big-hearted families, and just enough drama to keep the pie warm. And while the beginning is a slow simmer (yes, we do get detailed porch railing installations), the tension builds like a thriller should. The abductor’s POV is chilling and… can someone please explain how Roberts makes even that compelling?

The slow-burn romance? Totally worthy. The suspense? Kept me on the edge. But honestly, did I need quite this much? Sometimes it dragged. And the ending felt a bit rushed. Still, I loved it. Nora Roberts nailed the family vibes and mystery. 4.5 stars!

Sure, the ending may come a lil fast, but it hits hard. You’re already too emotionally invested in Sloan, Nash, and this entire nosy town to care.

So ask yourself: Would you chase a killer during physical therapy? No? Well, Sloan would—and thank god she did.

Hidden Nature by Nora Roberts Summary (Spoilers)

Imagine just wrapping up a successful takedown of mountain creeps with your partner—feeling like a total badass—only to stop at a convenience store for snacks and nearly die. That’s how Sloan Cooper’s day goes.

“They didn’t know they were chosen. But he did. He always knew.”

One bullet later, she’s fighting for life, and suddenly she’s back in her hometown, surrounded by chirping birds, talkative neighbors, and her well-meaning (read: slightly more) family at their cozy mountain resort.

Sloan is tough, and absolutely not the “rest and relax” type. So when a woman vanishes from a grocery store parking lot and Sloan starts seeing a creepy pattern of disappearances across multiple states? Yeah… you know she’s going to dive in, pain meds and all.

Enter the Littlefield brothers. Nash is broody and handy (a dangerous combo), trying to renovate an old house and rebuild his life. Theo is sunshine with a toolkit. Together they start a handyman business, which brings them straight into the Cooper family’s orbit. Something is cooking in between them.

But hey, what’s romance without a potential serial killer lurking in the background?

Hidden Nature Ending Spoilers:

As Sloan gets near to the truth, we meet him—the killer. Yep, we’re inside his deeply twisted mind. He thinks he’s fixing people, helping them “start over.” Spoiler: he’s not. He’s murdering them. Creeped out yet?

The tension explodes when Sloan becomes his next target. (Was anyone surprised? Girl’s too nosy for her own good.) But with Nash, her sister Drea, and her team backing her, Sloan sets the trap—and springs it. The killer? Caught. The town? Safe. Her heart? Fully compromised by Nash Littlefield.

Justice served. Porch rebuilt. Romance blooming.

And Sloan? She’s back—scarred, stronger, and not done yet.

Quotes:

“I didn’t fight to live just to sit still. I fought to do. To be.”

Final Verdict?

But all in all, if you love thrillers with multiple POV’s and chilling goosebumps. It’s a Yes!

Who should read it:

  • If you are fans of strong female leads.
  • If you are nature and outdoors lovers. (giddy about mountain towns, lakes, and woods)
  • If you like reading serial abductions? Creepy POVs from the killer?
  • Nora Roberts Fans – You already know. You’re reading it no matter what.
