“Despite herself, Dru is drawn to Ash and the darkness that seems to surround him—but one false move could cost her life.
Meanwhile, a shocking disappearance rocks the foundations of the Shadowhunter world”
Book Review: The Last King of Faerie by Cassandra Clare
After reading the title, I was like, we are back in the Shadowhunter world, and honestly… it’s a bit nostalgic. But did I end up emotionally attached to fictional teenagers, ancient magic, Faerie politics, and literally what not? Obviously.
The Last King of Faerie feels like a massive homecoming. Cassandra Clare brings back the magic of Shadowhunter with new adventures, old faces, romance, tensions and obviously secrets.
Kit, Dru, Ty, and Ash absolutely carry this book. Kit, specifically, has grown so much, and watching him deal with his feelings for Ty, truly cute. And Ty? My heart. His vulnerability, loyalty, and love for his family made me think that he’s should be protected.
Then there is Dru and Ash.
Excuse me, Cassandra, who gave you permission to make them this adorable?
Their banter and chemistry is a total hit. Ash pretending to be mysterious and terrifying while completely melting around Dru? Sir, we see you.
The nostalgia is also strong. We go through old characters, callbacks, and little connections to previous series made this feel like a love letter to old Shadowhunter readers. Magnus appearing? Of course. Because apparently the Shadowhunter universe cannot function without Magnus Bane showing up and judging everyone.
But here where i feel it missed.
The book can feel overstuffed. There are so many characters, names, histories, politics, magical objects, references, and many more things that i felt a need of family tree, a map, and possibly a PhD in Cassandra Clare Lore.
And the ending?
RUDE.
Absolutely, spectacularly rude.
Just when I thought, “Okay, I can emotionally recover now,” Cassandra basically said, “No ❤️.”

The Last King of Faerie Summary Spoilers
The storyline of Last King of Faerie begins with Dru Blackthorn getting herself into the kind of situation where he’s unable to make even one sensible decision. Unfortunately, he’s not doing so.
Dru is caught up with Clary and Janus the Huntsman when everything goes horribly wrong. She is nearly killed, only to be saved by Ash, the mysterious Faerie prince who looks frighteningly like Jace and happens to be the son of Sebastian and the Seelie Queen. Because apparently one complicated family tree wasn’t enough for the Shadowhunter universe.
Moreover the story moves to The Seelie Court, which is full of secrets, manipulation, political games, Ash also wants Dru to train him as a Shadowhunter, while his relationship with Janus becomes increasingly complicated.
Then things get much worse.
Shadowhunters begin disappearing, and the portals between the mundane world and Faerie are sealed. Kit Herondale and Ty Blackthorn are among those left behind. When their own loved ones disappear, both work together despite many differences.
“She was his hope and his weakness.”
Kit finally finds that he is the true heir to the united Faerie throne, meaning the boy who avoids emotional conversations now has to lead an entire magical kingdom. Naturally.
Kit and Ty set for on a dangerous quest, looking for a something which can open a way to Faerie while facing demons, magic, old enemies.
And if we talk about romance, then yes it is there. Kit and Ty slowly confront what they mean to each other, while Dru and Ash also grew closer.

The Last King of Faerie Ending Explained:
By the end, the various mysteries are not at all resolved. Chaos everywhere.
The book in my opinion, deliberately ends as the beginning of the final Shadowhunter story rather than wrapping everything up neatly.
Basically, Cassandra Clare looked at eighteen books of complicated lore and thought, “You know what this needs? More problems.”
And then she ended the book.
Quotes:
“Princes have less choice than those who are not princes.”
Is The Last King of Faerie worth reading?
If we leave a few pacing issues, The Last King of Faerie delivers what old fans came for, be it- nostalgia, romance, banter, heartbreak, and that feeling of coming home.
