Trial of the Sun Queen Summary Spoilers by Nisha J. Tuli

Lor has spent the last twelve years fighting to survive. And by fighting, I mean literally throwing hands because this girl picks battles like it’s a sport, even when she clearly can’t win. Naturally, this lands her in an even worse prison designed to break people in two days. Lor? Survives a whole week. Malnourished, weak, and somehow still standing? Icon behavior.

Enter a guard from Aphelion who kidnaps her from her lovely (read: horrific) prison life and make her stood into the most high-stakes beauty pageant of all timethe Sun Queen Trials. Ten women, one crown, and a whole lot of bloodshed. The goal? Survive. The reward? Power, riches, and a golden destiny. The catch? The trial could have been avoided entirely if they just had everyone stand in front of the magical Sun Mirror that literally picks the queen. Efficiency? Who needs it!

Now, let’s talk about the men.

Who’s Who in the Sun Queen Trials?

First, we have Atlas, the handsome, charming, Sun King. He’s sweet, he’s nice, he’s…boring? A little too perfect, maybe? Lor isn’t so sure she should trust his overly convenient kindness. And honestly, she has a point. Ever heard of a man being too nice in fantasy? Yeah, exactly.

Then there’s Gabriel. Tall, broody, and absolutely done with everyone’s nonsense. He’s supposed to be Lor’s trainer, but really, he spends most of his time roasting her and telling her she’s weak. But hey, honesty is a virtue, and we stan a man who keeps it real. Just when you think he’s just a guard, boom, plot twist. He’s even more interesting than you thought.

And finally, Nadir. The Aurora Prince. Morally gray? Check. Mysterious? Check. Childhood trauma? Huge check. He barely interacts with Lor in this book, but his POV offers a much-needed look into the bigger picture. Also, he’s grumpy, so naturally, people love him.

The Plot: Twists, Turns & Betrayals

Back to Lor—our girl struggles, gets played, learns, and evolves. She’s stubborn, and sometimes straight-up foolish, but she’s also smart, determined, and refuses to back down. And the best part? She earns her strength, her wit, and her victories.

As the trials progress, Lor starts to realize—Atlas might not be as perfect as he seems. And more importantly, who even is she? Secrets unravel, betrayals sting, and by the end, you’ll be left screaming, “WHAT JUST HAPPENED?”

So, will Lor become the Sun Queen? Will she survive the games? And most importantly, will we get more Gabriel in the next book? There’s only one way to find out.

Book Review- Trial of the Sun Queen by Nisha J. Tuli

Goodreads Rating3.88 ⭐⭐️⭐️⭐️(as of now)
My Rating3.0⭐⭐️⭐️
Lor is tough, reckless, and carries enough trauma to fuel a five-season drama series. I liked her. Mostly. But sometimes? Girl, please think before you act. The Sun King, Atlas, is suspiciously charming (Red Flag). Nadir? but barely in the book. And Gabriel? The star focus. Give him more screen time, please.

The plot started slow, then went wild—in a good way. Twists? Oh yeah. But did I feel the stakes? Not really. Some moments hit, others felt… predictable. Would I read the sequel? Maybe Yes…. The premise?, a little slow but okay. A deadly competition, a mysterious past, and a questionable romance? Sign me up. But did it deliver? Eh.
