Book Review: Fearless (The Powerless Trilogy #3)

Okay, Fearless… what a rollercoaster, started off bored, maybe even rolling my eyes. But then—BAM!—I blinked and I was 400 pages deep, & deeply invested in Kai and Paedyn’s “we want to, but we shouldn’t” slow-burn romance.

And let me tell you—it burns. The tension? Chef’s kiss. The pacing of their relationship? Perfect. No insta-love here, just longing, loyalty, and so many stolen glances. You can also get emotional at the Adena and Mak mention, but Mak’s reaction to Paedyn… Like… bro, your sister LOVED her. You know this. Why are you mad?

I also have questions. Like, did we really need that borderline in*est plot twist? Also, some twists felt like last-minute ideas thrown at the wall—entertaining, yes, but not always coherent with earlier books.

Still, Roberts’ writing has matured so much, and her ability to pull emotional threads (and my sanity) is impressive. Is it perfect? No. But is it gripping, and utterly addictive? Absolutely.

Fearless by Lauren Roberts Summary (Spoilers)

Poor Pae is just trying to stay alive and sane after, you know, being betrayed, heartbroken, almost executed, and secretly royalty. No biggie.

Now back in Ilya, she must compete in a set of deadly trials to prove her worth as queen. Meanwhile, the people are watching, the nobles are scheming, and Paedyn? She’s still in love with Kai Azer, the king’s son and literal face of yearning.

“She wore a crown forged from pain and sacrifice—and still, they questioned her right to it.”

Their forbidden romance? Still forbidden. Still smoldering. Still filled with the occasional “Pretty Pae” or “Poet” nickname that had many of us rolling our eyes (can someone take Kai’s thesaurus away?).

The plot? Full of twists—some great, some what just happened. Like the shocking revelation that Kitt is Paedyn’s actual brother. As in… she married her brother. Yes, it was annulled, yes they didn’t know at the time, but still—can we get a okay moment?

Mak returns with a big dose of emotional tension and angry glares, but thankfully redeems himself by the end. And Paedyn? She claws her way through everything—betrayal, secrets, trauma—and takes the throne like the queen she was always meant to be.

Final Verdict?

Final verdict: a slightly chaotic but satisfying end to a loved trilogy. I’ll definitely be reading whatever Roberts writes next. Was it perfect? No. But it was bold, dramatic, occasionally ridiculous, and full of heart. Which, let’s be real, is exactly why we couldn’t put it down.

Who should read it:

• if you love forbidden, slow-burn romance.
• if you really enjoy books with deadly trials, crowns at stake, and rebellion.
• Crave a heroine who rises from nothing to face the system.
• Don’t mind a story that starts slow but takes off mid-way. (also characters development too..)
