Powerful Background Story:
The story is set in the Ilya kingdom, where a plague killed many people a century ago. Survivors of the DNA-altering plague developed various powers to the withholders, leading to the formation of the elites. After the plague, some survivors who developed powers are known as the Elites while others are referred as Ordinaries. Fast forward 70 years later, the Ordinaries and Elites coexist peacefully.
However, the King of Ilya wishes to eliminate the ordinaries completely. Paedyn’s father trained her from a young age to be extremely observant in order for her to pose as a psychic for her power. Paedyn has spent her entire life pretending to be an elite by posing as a psychic. Paedyn is chosen by the people of Ilia to compete in the “Purging Trials“, which take place every five years to demonstrate the powers of young elites.
However, she is an ordinary living in a kingdom of elites. Paedyn has spent her entire life trying to be an elite by impersonating one. Paedyn in reality lacks powers, making him a commoner in an elite realm. Yet she managed to survive the trials and started the resistance.

Reckless Summary – Amazing Storytelling
Paedyn after successfully eliminated the King, has ignited a Resistance movement across the land. However, her actions have also put her on a tangle with Kai Azer, now Ilya’s enforcement head and fiercely loyal to his brother Kitt—the new King.
The story starts to delves deeper into the rebellion, as the Ordinary-born fights for their freedom. Kitt, chained with the pressure of his crown and the burden of ruling a kingdom which is on the verge of civil war.
Meanwhile, as Paedyn and Kai starts to explore the rebellion’s places, they come across a secret city called Dor, a wanna be place for those who have run away from the rule of the Elites. This secret and unknown place provides a clear view of what a balanced world could look like, increasing Paedyn’s will to overthrow the oppressive regime. However, danger is around every corner because of the spies which Elites has deployed and a shocking betrayal threatens to expose the rebellion. Loyalties are tested, sacrifices are made, and one cannot be mistaken as friend and enemy easily.
Anticipation of Fearless (3rd Book)
Kitt’s to be happening marriage with Paedyn will definitely complicate her relationship with Kai, and it may result to creation of rift between the two brothers. It will also be harm to Paedyn, who links Kitt with his father. It’s not clear what is the plan of Kitt to do with this marriage, and Calum may be supporting it to save Paedyn’s life. However, who knows Kitt can be converted into full – fledged villain in upcoming Fearless book, as his proximity allows him to harm Paedyn as much as he wants.
There are also significant revelation about the difference between Ordinaries and Elites in Reckless. According to Paedyn’s father’s, the king was well aware that the Ordinaries do no poses any threat to Elites. The backdrop of a kingdom where something is always wrong and the threat of Kitt’s being hyper concerned with his leadership adds more salt to overall story.
Paedyn becoming queen might also help their cause, which is why Calum wants her to get married to Kitt. Kitt and Kai will most likely be on the alert for any possibility of treachery, making it difficult to see how Paedyn or the Resistance will get out of their current situation.

The novel contains surprising twists and turns that keep readers on the edge of their seats.
A “all powerful force” against the repressive tyranny that threatens her world. The supporting characters have unique arcs and roles that enrich the tale. Lauren’s writing is vivid and compelling, making the dystopian atmosphere real and imaginable. The action writing sequence are also well-crafted, combining suspense and adrenaline.
The romance plot which move side by side offers a good emotional depth without overshadowing the main characters. Reckless is a great book in the series of The Powerless Trilogy, combining action, emotion, and thematic depth.
